School Support Group Resources
The following documents originated from a support group set up in a local elementary school. We hope it gives you a basis for getting one started in your own school. It is very important to take a diplomatic, non-confrontational approach in order to avoid alienating staff and parents. A support group is a good start because it is a resource to parents and the school.
Often, we parents of food allergic children are asking other parents to make changes in their everyday routine amid their own hectic schedules, and to consider others' needs as well as their own. Change can be difficult. It takes patience, time and effort to help them understand why these needs are so important. It is also essential to make reasonable suggestions, and have the school administration and staff behind you. We hope these documents help and we appreciate any suggestions you have.

Introducing your School Support Group to the School Council
This presentation was written by one of our support group families. It was used to introduce the Allergy Asthma Support Group they had just formed in their school to the School Council. It uses a non-confrontational, informative, low-key approach--the keys to success in gradually providing education to others about allergies and asthma and seeking to initiate changes in school policies and procedures.
